embarrassing art

Yesterday was my 22nd birthday. It was pretty good as Baltimore birthdays go. I got some work done, did laundry. Jen brought over muffins in the morning and Erik came over in the pm. Not a bad way to get older.

In other news.... I made a little book about my relationship with deodorant. Then I printed 10 of them. Each one is 24 pages. I haven't included all the spreads. Maybe i'll do that later upon resquest! Here it is in all it's embarrassing glory:

i swear i've been working

Hey.
So the last post I made had those colorful bugs as part of a hand scroll I was making. However, the paper I had to print it on for it to look decent was too thick to be rolled without making the whole scroll look like hell. That led me to make an entirely new scroll (hand done this time). It read left to right in the actual scroll, but I reversed it for you english speaking peeps. And this is what came of it:

I went running last night. Breathed well, ran fine. Hooooray for asthma drugs.
Then it started raining.
Then I went to a grand party hosted by the lovely Jen Brown.
Now I am eating animal crackers and wishing Tegan and Sara wrote better lyrics.

drinking too much water

This is a small part of 1 of the 2 hand scrolls I made.Things I realized today:
Honor Blackman played Pussy Galore from James Bond. Two great names, right?!!
I tend to forget my phone is on vibrate and leave it that way for days.
Flailing and squawking at seagulls on the corner of an intersection distracts drivers.

I AM FLYING HOME FRIDAY MORNING. WOOOOO

the streetlights call themselves stars

The weather has warmed and the clock has moved ahead. I've found a lot of good new music over the past week. And, surprisingly, most of it is upbeat stuff. I guess the change in weather has seeped into my spirits.

I was looking through my pictures tonight and found this one. It's from Winter Break in Hamburg Pavilion. It just made me smile, so I thought i'd post it in lieu of arts.Oh, hell... I might as well show you guys some stuff. I'll probably reshoot the two cover pictures because I was only using two lights when I took them. I have three lights now (and everyone knows 3 lights are better than 2)! This is a book cover I made Junior year for my Photo Imaging class. It's called The Zucchini Bomber.

I've been running again. It's pathetic how much my lungs have weakened since I last ran regularly. But i'll keep with it.

deodorant and mild depression

This is for my DIY book. I'll explain later. I just wanted to show guys what i've been doing these last few days.

I just finished writing one essay and figured I'd take a break and make a post before starting on the next essay for the same class... *covers eyes with hands*

I woke up in the fetal position, nails dug into my pillow, making some sort of incoherent sound this morning. And my stomach felt like I'd just been impaled on a rusty iron rod. I stepped out of bed to put some clothes on and slipped on a biography of John Winthrop that had fallen off the bed when I fell asleep reading it. Fucking Puritan. Then I proceeded to fall back asleep, laying on the floor curled in a ball. I woke up not too long after to my cell alarm going off and my mouth all dry because it was about 5 inches from the space heater. Not my finest hour.

If there was an emergency button for my life, I would have pressed it today. But it probably wouldn't matter anyway because i'm sure the siren's broken and the flashing lights burned out back in '98

Dear Mom,
I love you. I can't ever really say that enough to you.

swamp ophelia

Busy, busy. I've been working as hard as possible, but.... I really bit off more than I could chew this time around. Everyone else is making text heavy books, but mine are almost exclusively vector and hand drawn stuff. Ouch.

Anyway... I'm trying to get my pdf portfolio underway. I spent the first half of the day re-designing, printing, and folding (when necessary) my old pieces to photograph. It's a really tiresome process, but it feels good to be getting this stuff photographed and out of the way.

I dug up this piece from the ole external hardrive and still got a real kick out of it. It's a mini, pocket-sized series of books about time travel and maths. Schrödinger's cat acts as the guide. It's from first semester junior year ... I think.

Other news:
I went running last night in the freezing temps. It was a really terrible idea that ended in me choking on clear slimy stuff in my lungs for 2 hours and having a really wheezy asthma attack that lasted all night. Good intentions, bad outcome. I won't be running in the cold again. My legs were the only thing that didn't hurt!
